Know your limits. Track Claude Code & Codex from your menu bar.
BurnGauge shows where you stand against your session and weekly usage limits, so you don’t get cut off in the middle of a coding run. See reset timing and catch alerts before you hit a wall. Everything stays on your Mac: no servers, no data collection.
A small colored badge shows your 5-hour session at a glance. Green means room. Yellow means close. Red means slow down.
Track both the 5-hour session window and the 7-day weekly window for Claude and Codex, side by side, with reset timing.
BurnGauge reads your current pace and projects where you’ll land by reset, so you know if you’re on track to run out.
Native macOS notifications fire once when usage crosses your chosen threshold (70%, 80%, 85%, or 90%) before a limit interrupts you.
Usage at a glance, right from the menu bar
A colored badge in your menu bar tracks your current 5-hour session. Hover for an instant breakdown: 5-hour and 7-day percentages, projected end-of-window values, plus time until reset. Click to open the full panel.

Your data stays on your Mac
BurnGauge has no servers and no account system. Your provider credentials stay in the macOS Keychain or the local files the provider CLIs already use. BurnGauge reads them only to make the same direct HTTPS requests you already make.
We don’t run telemetry. We don’t track you. We don’t sell data. There is no BurnGauge server collecting your usage. Details: BurnGauge Privacy Policy.

Setup & FAQ
How do I set up Claude?
1. Install Claude Code: docs.claude.com/en/docs/claude-code/setup.
2. In Terminal, run claude /login to authenticate.
3. Click the BurnGauge icon → “Check again.”
4. The first time, macOS asks permission to read the keychain item, so click “Always Allow.” Your Claude usage appears within a few seconds.
How do I set up Codex?
1. Install the OpenAI Codex CLI and run codex login in Terminal.
2. Click the BurnGauge icon → switch to the Codex tab → “Grant Access…”
3. Select ~/.codex/auth.json in the file picker, then click “Grant Access” to confirm. Codex usage appears.
Is BurnGauge a subscription?
No. BurnGauge is a 7-day free trial followed by a single one-time $4.99 Lifetime Access purchase. It then runs on every Mac signed in to your Apple ID. There’s nothing to cancel.
Which providers are supported?
Anthropic Claude (via the Claude Code CLI) and OpenAI Codex (via the Codex CLI). More providers may be added in future updates based on community feedback.
The menu bar shows a key or lock icon. What does that mean?
The key icon means provider tokens expired and can’t be refreshed. Run claude /login or codex login to mint fresh tokens, then click “Check again.” The lock icon means your 7-day trial ended, so click the icon and choose “Unlock for $4.99.”
Does BurnGauge collect or send my data anywhere?
No. There are no BurnGauge servers and no telemetry. Credentials stay in your macOS Keychain or the local files the provider CLIs already use, and are read only to make the same direct HTTPS calls those tools already make. See the Privacy Policy.
BurnGauge is an independent macOS utility and is not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI, or any third-party AI service.
